A London based bank set the challenge to reduce their high power consumption. Whiston Solutions undertook the project with the aim of lowering the energy consumption over a period of 10 years. The project had to be carried out within the occupied premises with minimum impact to the end users. It was decided the first phase of the project would be achieved through replacing the existing lighting.
Whiston Solutions identified that the existing fluorescent lamps and lighting control in the bank premises were a major reason of higher energy consumption, as they are operating beyond business hours. The agreed solution was that the entire office lighting would be changed and replaced with the much more efficient and proven LED technology. Apart from that, installing LED downlighters in circulation spaces and back of house areas would provide additional consumption savings. With proper lighting control, the system would be used only during the bank department hours, so that it could be automatically turned off during non-working hours. It required a complete understanding of the timings of different departments and close communication with different stakeholders. This enabled Whiston Solutions to come up with a bespoke rolling programme that minimised disruption.
As the refit installation progressed, the bank realised the immediate benefit by measured energy savings. The payback period of the capital costs against the new operational costs was minimal. After the successful completion of this phase of the project, Whiston Solutions are now working with the bank to discover their next phases of energy saving opportunities.
