Expanding technology company
2011, Premises selection and development for a technology company
Our client, a rapidly expanding technology company, required new white space to keep up with their forecasted server growth. They required a datacentre that could initially cater for 40 cabinets, but which would ultimately house up to 160. The company were IT technology specialists, and had no experience of mechanical and electrical services. They approached Whiston Solutions to act as a trusted M&E partner who would evaluate the situation and help select the optimum site for their new datacentre.
As M&E experts, we understand how important it is to conduct extensive research and planning before commencing any project – our philosophy is to ‘get it right first time’. Using our cross‐cluster knowledge and IT experience, we spent time talking with the technology company to fully understand their business requirements, server density, growth projections and future location plans. We then went to the market to find a best fit, ready‐made datacentre that would not only satisfy our clients’ immediate requirements, but that would also suit their future growth predictions.
We shortlisted five potential datacentre providers, and carried out an independent M&E, security and real estate assessment on each space. Once we had produced our criteria scoring matrix, we were able to populate accurate set‐up and operating costs, utilising our commercial team. Having presented our findings to our client, they were quickly able to select the best fit datacentre for their business.
Whiston Solutions was able to provide the M&E expertise that enabled our client to select the right datacentre to host and support their business. By using us as a trusted partner and advisor, they had confidence in a field in which they had no previous experience, but one which is absolutely critical and ultimately powers their whole business.
