London, 2015, Disused high street bank transformed into collaborative hub
The disused high street bank contained a huge open space inside and was located in an easily accessible prime footfall area. The new owners wanted a flexible workspace that could provide multiple functions. This needed the latest technology, and the focus was on providing adaptability so that the building could be utilised for several purposes. The open space needed to be converted and intelligently subdivided to maximise the use of all the areas. This would then provide a collaborative environment and thus reflect today’s modern ways of working.
Whiston Solutions designed and delivered a turnkey solution consisting of a minimalist fit-out, without any false ceiling or false floor, to reflect an industrial warehouse feel. We installed flexible mounted acoustic partitioning that could easily be shifted and reconfigured to suit the clients changing space requirements.
By using our delivery, value, core, and management services, we created a functional new ‘look and feel’ for the work area. Our team combined formal and trendy furniture styles, and created various ‘themed zones’ mixing bench desking with soft seating. Our team also installed various pop-up decorations to give the space unique character. We installed cable basket to the soffit, which distributed all the power and data throughout the space. Installing high speed Wi-Fi connectivity was an absolute priority to make this space work, crucially the system was designed to be ‘open protocol’ and easily expandable, therefore incorporating an element of future proofing. We also provided within the fitout fresh air ventilation and all statutory fire detection and suppression equipment.
While the old banking space was previously left in an empty disused state, the new converted floorplan was designed to be flexible for the future and provided ample working space for up to 80 people. It also provided a central collaborative hub for people to ‘hang out’ within its cool interior décor. With the essential requirement of high speed Wi-Fi connectivity, our client could offer a quality BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) service to its customers.
Collaborative hubs are the office of the future – they combine the latest technology and contemporary décor to create a lively but relaxed and a socially engaging environment. The new space was no longer boring. It facilitates a flexible working environment with minimum fit-out but providing maximum user experience.
